Pittsburgh Penguins Hat
I'm still in the process of creating a pattern for the mittens. Life gets in the way lately so it's taking me longer than normal to write it. I promise it will be posted at some point!!
In the mean time, I have created a pattern for the Pittsburgh Penguins to go with the Flyers hat pattern I have posted. Yes, I will wear mine at the same time my boyfriend is wearing his, and I will look so much better than him :) Enjoy! And as always, if there are mistakes or questions, please let me know!! I will post pictures as soon as I finish mine!!

Pittsburgh Penguins Hat - Modified "Best Girlfriend in the World Hat"
Size: Adult Medium
Supplies:
Yarn: About 110 yards black worsted weight yarn
About 55 yards yellow worsted weight yarn
About 14 yards white worsted weight yarn
Needles: U.S. #7 (4.5mm) circular needles
Notions: Yarn needle, stitch marker
Gauge: 5sts x 8 rows = 1” in stockinette stitch.
Abbreviations:
CO ~ cast on
K ~ knit
P ~ purl
PM ~ place marker
M1 ~ make 1
K2Tog ~ knit two together
Rnd(s) ~ rounds
Rep ~ repeat
St(s) ~ stitches
Slp ~ Slip
Chart:
Pattern:
CO 88 sts with black yarn. Place marker and join to knit in the round.
Rd. 1: Slp 1, K1, continue in P2, K2 ribbing to end of round.
*The slip one at the beginning helps to correct the inevitable gap when joining the rounds.
Rd. 2: *K2, P2, continue from * to end of round.
Continue in K2, P2 ribbing for 5-6”
Increase Round:
*K7, Invisible Increase. Repeat from * to last 4 sts. K3, Invisible Increase, K1
The invisible increase is done knitting into the stitch of the row below the current row. After the increase you need to knit the stitch in the current row above the one where you have just done the increase. This counts as the first K in the pattern repeat. (I know it sounds confusing!!)
Invisible Increase:
Insert your right needle into the stitch of the row below the current row from front to back, as pictured, and knit it.
Unless you do it, it is difficult to understand, but once you know how to do it, it is super easy! (*Note: you cannot begin a row with this technique! If you do, it will undo the last stitch in the last row you knitted!!)
The closest tutorial I have found for this is here. It has great pictures to go along with the description. It isn't quite the way I do it, but it is pretty darn close and will work well! I like this better than the M1 because there is no chance of a hole, plus I think it looks nicer :).

Rnd 3: *K7, K2Tog. Repeat from * to end. (80 sts)

Begin rapid decrease:
Rnd 11: *K3, K2Tog. Repeat from *to end (40 sts)
Rnd 12: *K2, K2Tog, Repeat from * to end (30 sts)
Rnd 13: *K1, K2Tog. Repeat from * to end (20 sts)
Rnd 14: *K2Tog. Repeat from *to end (10 sts).
Cut yarn leaving a 6 inch tail. Thread tail through remaining stitches and pull tightly towards the wrong side of the hat. I like to loop the yarn through the last worked stitch and tie a tight knot before I weave the end in, just to keep the top from loosening over time and wear, which may create a hole.
Weave in all other ends and enjoy!!
Hope you enjoy the Penguins version of the "Best Girlfriend in the World Hat"!!
