Falling Away From Summer

Last week I reminded you that sooner than you think, chilly weather will be upon us. (If you haven't read last weeks post, you can check it out here). Sweaters and cold weather projects generally take a longer amount of time to complete, especially when summer weather is still holding on!
I don't know about the rest of the country, but up here in the North East, it's still pushing 90 degrees! While I have my sweater on needles ready for air conditioned nights, I also have a transitional project, one that's a little less bulky and heavy, that I can sit on my porch and knit while I let my kitties romp around in the grass and soak up what is left of the warm sunshine!

So this week, I have come up with a few projects to help us make that transition from summer to fall. All of these are quick(ish) knits that can be worn or used during warm or chilly weather. And once again, they are all free!! :)

First up is a pattern for a shawl/scarf called Sun Kissed from Yarn On The House. (Great blog, beautiful yarn!) Even the yarn they have used for the sample is perfect to transition from summer to fall! Check it out HERE. Links to the yarn are on the page. The link to the pattern is the box at the bottom of the blog post.
Second, I have a pattern that is so simple yet beautiful. It comes from Espace Tricot which is a great yarn shop that has a lot of beautiful, simple patterns for free. Make it out of linen or cotton and extend the length so you can wear with shorts in the summer and leggings in the fall! Pattern available HERE.

For a more substantial knit, this summer tunic is the perfect item to use for chilly summer nights or autumn days. Knit it out of linen for the perfect balance. The original pattern is available for free from Berroco HERE. Modification information to make it look more modern is available HERE.
Ok, so this one may not be quite too "quick", but it's adorable and will definitely transition well from summer to fall! This dress is definitely on my to knit list for next year. The color on the model is great for fall! To make it more of a transitional piece, try a muted green or blue. Actually, any natural color would look great! The pattern is found among other free dress patterns HERE.
Socks definitely fit the "quick" criteria and are always needed, despite the season! This particular pattern is even better because they are not overly bulky! I'd definitely use 100% cotton for these. Pattern available from Dabber Designs on Ravelry, HERE.

That's it for this week! Don't forget to check back next Wednesday and subscribe so you don't miss anything!

Happy Knitting!

Sara
